I’m the proud Mum of Etienne, who was born at 26 weeks gestation weighing just 558 grams (1lb 3 oz) due to pre-eclampsia and intra-uterine growth restriction. During his 138 day stay at Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne Etienne faced many, many life-threatening challenges, requiring not least, 58 blood transfusions. You can watch his story here:
Do I need to say it was a life-changing experience? I started this blog to talk about the transformational journey I’ve been on since having a micropreemie, lessons learnt from the NICU experience, healing and moving on, and the challenge of being a preemie parent.
I’m also the founder of an Australian community organisation called Milky Mums which aims to help women breastfeeding in neonatal intensive care. Please check it out, and if you know of a Mum who’s in a NICU right now, we might be able to help.
And finally, if you want to share your comments, musings or your own experience with a baby born too soon, I’d love to hear from you.
